Creditors would rather get some of the money than none of it, so they are generally very willing to negotiate a deal that will slash your final debt by as much as 60%.

Now of course those are great savings that debt settlement companies can secure, but it does not come without a price of its own and that is why so many people do not qualify to work with debt settlement companies. You need to be able to pay off that final balance right away. Some debt settlement companies will allow you 1 to 3 years to pay it off, but still, many of us will not have that kind of disposable cash available to us. If we do though, then debt settlement gives up the chance to pay off the creditors in one shot and get them off our backs. We can then start to save that money instead of sending it off each and every month.
